The band was formed in 1962 from the remnants of the old Spalding Town Band under the musical direction of A.B. Tatnal.
In 1976 Mr Mel Hopkin took over as Musical Director and built up a then depleted band . After Mel decided to move on Mr Steve Ingham became M.D. in 1981 for a time before being replaced by Mr Hugh Thomas.
Over this period the Band slowly declined again Mr Dean Herd took over the band in 2000 with only seven members, it has been a struggle to bring the Band up out of the ashes but over the last two years it seems to have turned a corner again.
In 2009 it was with great reluctance that the band declined to a point where it was not possible to continue it's affiliation with the Royal British Legion and became SPALDING BRASS.
