Eastbourne Silver Band
Eastbourne Silver Band was formed in 1950, by a group of ex-service bandsmen, and received much help in the early years from Eastbourne Borough Council, and the late Gilbert Foyle of Foyle's bookshop fame.
From its earlier successes as a contesting band,Eastbourne Silver Band developed into one of the most successful concert bands in the south. They have for many years provided entertainment at a number of venues in Sussex, Kent and the Royal Parks in London.
In the past the band has undertaken concert tours of France, Germany,Belgium and Holland, and on two occasions took part in the Fetes de la mer celebrations at Fecamp, Normandy. They have also assisted East Sussex County Council to promote the Sussex resorts in France by providing concerts in Dieppe over the French Bank Holiday.
Each year the band open the summer season at Eastboune Bandstand on Easter Sunday, and on Cristmas Day morning the appear on the bandstand playing seasonal music and marchs/overtures to quite a large audiance come rain or snow.
Now under the leadership of Geoff Broome the band is set to continue to entertain the people of Eastbourne, and wherever else we are asked to play.
