BT Band

The BT Band was formed in 1967 as a result of the Stockport Branch of the Post Office Engineering Union opening a social section. The Band was then known as the Stockport Telephone Band. With the subsequent support of the Post Office Engineering, this lasted nineteen years until sponsorship was taken over by BT in 1987, and remain the Band's sponsor until this day.

The Band first contested in 1969 at the Manchester Belle Vue Spring Contest. Since then the Band has progressed through the various sections to become, in 1992, the National Champions (first section), thus moving into the Championship Section. Many contest successes have been achieved, finishing runners-up at the Grand Shield in 1998, thus enabling the Band to compete in the British Open for the first time.

Since qualification to the Open contest, the band were also invited to the Master's contest held in Cambridge, the first appearance ever in this contest by the band.
